Welcome to my first self love blog post, I am just starting out on my self love journey and look forward to sharing it with you!
So what exactly is self love? Get your mind out of the gutter, this is a PG blog! 😉
Dictionary definition – Self Love.
That is what the dictionary deems self love to mean … hang on … conceit/vanity/narcissism???? Now I know where some people get their misconceptions about self love from, the dictionary!!
In my opinion, self love is to be used as a way of empowering yourself and using that empowerment in a positive light, spreading it around and helping others. It isn’t meant to mean you become full of yourself in a bad (big headed) kinda way.
Anywhoooo, in reality self love means different things to different people. But generally the gist of it is, being kind and compassionate with yourself and accepting you just the way you are, in body and mind.
Now this doesn’t mean you have to stop trying to improve yourself, if indeed that is what you would like to do. It means you can improve yourself in a healthier way. You will be coming from a place of love and respect rather that hate and disdain.
You will feel worthy not worthless.
Whether you choose to improve yourself or not, self love is about being truly grateful for the person you are now. It’s about getting to know yourself, sometimes this can be very difficult and sometimes painful to do. As we look deeper and deeper at ourselves for who we truly are, and we take the masks off that we choose to wear. The masks we show to the world and sometimes even to ourselves.
Stripping that away is liberating and frightening. At first you may feel vulnerable, but the further you go and the kinder you are to yourself, the more empowered you will feel.
It is a journey, maybe a turbulent one at that. However it is worthwhile doing.
If everyone practiced self love and were genuinely at peace with themselves … just imagine a world like that!
I hope you found this short and sweet blog helpful.
Tthere will be other self love blogs to follow!
Have a great day!
